Airbus Helicopters has awarded a contract to Safran Electronics & Defense for the delivery of Euroflir 410 observation systems, which will be installed on ten NH90-TTH Caiman helicopters used by French Special Forces.

The helicopters are expected to permit the forces to handle a complete range of utility missions.

The new-generation Euroflir 410 can detect and identify the threats that are far away, in turn increasing the operational capabilities of French Special Forces.

It allows the forces to carry out missions in the day and night, as well as in the worst weather conditions.

Euroflir 410 is produced and designed by Safran and is an optronic (electro-optical) system that provides observation capability in different visibility conditions owing to its ‘very-long-range multispectral telescope’ and line-of-sight stabilisation.

Additionally, it can be integrated easily with mission systems and be used with wide-field-of-view Eurofl’eye optronics. This reduces the workload of pilots in the cockpit.

“Ten NH90 TTH Standard 2 helicopters will be delivered to the 4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment starting in 2025 and will gradually replace the French army’s Puma helicopters.”

In December, Safran Aircraft Engines finalised a partnership agreement with MTU Aero Engines to jointly work on the development of the engine of the Franco-German Future Combat Air System (FCAS) next-generation combat jet.

In June, Safran Electronics & Defense entered partnership pacts with Hensoldt Optronics and Mades to develop and manufacture the Euroflir 610 multispectral electro-optical targeting and observation system.
