The Sri Lankan Government has authorised FL Technics Defence to support and maintain tactical transport aircraft of the country’s armed forces.

The approval requires the company to provide spare parts and also look after maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities of the Sri Lanka Air Force’s (SLAF) An-32 and the C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft.

FL Technics CEO Zilvinas Lapinskas said: "Boasting a convenient geographical location, Sri Lanka aims to develop a fully-fledged aviation hub which would service the entire region.

"With this in mind, efficient and ready-to-act air forces certainly play a vital role in ensuring the safety of both domestic and international commercial aviation, as well as various search and rescue missions.

"By providing prompt and quality support to their transport C-130s and An-32s, we endeavour to contribute to further successful formation of Sri Lankan aviation."

The approval also enables FL Technics to participate in all public procurement tenders conducted by or on behalf of the SLAF.

The SLAF currently operates more than 130 various aircraft, including attack, support, transport, reconnaissance, training airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The SLAF’s tactical airlift/transport fleet includes two C-130 Hercules and four An-32 type aircraft, in addition to nine Harbin Y-12 twin-engine turboprop utility aircraft.

Lockheed Martin manufactures the C-130 aircraft. It is designed to conduct airborne assault, search-and-rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance and aerial refuelling, maritime patrol, and aerial firefighting operations.

The Antonov-built An-32 is a twin engine, tactical light transport aircraft used for troop and cargo transport over short and medium-range air routes, and emergency missions in its ambulance version.
