Raytheon is seeking to integrate its Small Tactical Munition (STM), which is ideal for counterinsurgency, into a range of light-attack aircraft.

The 22in-long STM is an air-launched, precision-guided, gravity-dropped weapon primarily designed for use on unmanned aircraft systems.

Raytheon Advanced Missiles and Unmanned Systems vice-president Bob Francois explained that STM’s small size will allow the war-fighter to carry dozens of STMs on a multitude of light-attack aircraft.

"Instead of using an expensive system to destroy a target such as a lightly armoured vehicle, the warfighter could use an STM, which costs roughly the same as a pickup truck and reduces collateral damage," Francois added.
