L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) has received a contract from the US Air Force to modernise two F-16C Block 52 aircrew training devices (ATDs) for the Pakistan Air Force.

The contract is a modification to an existing production contract, under which the company will upgrade the F-16C training simulators with its new SimuSphere HD-9 visual system display to enhance realism during tactical training missions.
The SimuSphere HD-9 provides enhanced, realistic tactical training through the use of high-definition databases, image generators and the HD-9 visual display while also being capable of simulating Pakistan’s geo-specific visual system database through programming.
L-3 Link president Leonard Genna said: "SimuSphere HD-9, combined with the trainers’ overall HD World capabilities, will allow Pakistan Air Force F-16 pilots to gain training credit equivalent to live training."
The upgraded ATDs will support new pilot and pilot-conversion training including take-offs and landings, low-level flight and emergency procedures, as well as advanced skills training such as acquiring and identifying targets while delivering a range of ordnance during simulated air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

By GlobalDataThe simulators will also feature L-3 Link’s simulated joint helmet-mounted cueing system, enabling pilots to practice control of aircraft-targeting systems and sensors, and night-vision goggles to conduct simulated night-time missions over a geo-specific visual system database.
Additionally, the trainers will be supported by one mission support system, and each simulator will also have a dedicated instructor/operator station.
The upgraded F-16C Block 52 simulators are scheduled for delivery in 2013 and will be installed and networked at Shahbaz Air Base at Jacobabad, in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
