India will spend nearly $25bn to induct 250 advanced stealth fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA), jointly developed with Russia for the country’s air force.
Each FGFA features super-manoeuvrability, supersonic cruising ability, long-range strike and high-endurance air defence capabilities, at a cost of around $100m.

The 30t FGFA will be a swing-role fighter, equipped with advanced avionics, 360° situational awareness, smart weapons, data-links and high-end mission computers.
The Indian FGFA will based on the Russian Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA, which is considered superior to the American F/A-22 Raptor aircraft.
IAF chief air marshal PV Naik said the air force will induct 200-250 FGFAs in phases from 2017 onwards, according to The Times of India.
India and Russia are looking to sign the FGFA preliminary design contract during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to India in December.
