The Electronic Systems Center’s aerospace management systems division weather systems branch is developing a portable doppler radar system for the US Air Force.

The doppler radar will enable air force personnel to see inside a storm, understand its structure and disseminate data much more rapidly than before through connection to the global information grid (GIG).

The radar will provide three significant capabilities in one system including doppler radar, transportability and the ability to transmit data over the GIG.

The portable system, which requires only four people to set up in 12 hours, can be easily moved around in theatre.

The data collected from the radar can be used in a stand-alone capacity or transmitted net-centrically as well over the GIG.

The system has completed government testing and was granted a full-rate production decision.
