The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) has retired its F-4D Phantom fighter jets after 41 years of service.

Since 1969, the 151st Fighter Squadron of the ROKAF has operated 60 twin-engine F-4D twin-engine aircraft with a top speed of Mach 2.3 and an operational range of 1,260km.

The F-4D jets will be replaced by Boeing-built F-15K Slam Eagle fighters, which can fly air-to-ground, air-to-air and air-to-sea missions day and night in any weather conditions according to the Korea Times.

Under a 2007 deal, Boeing will deliver the F-15K aircraft with a 23,000lb payload capability, maximum speed of Mach 2.3 and a combat radius of 1,800km.
