Canada has taken delivery of the first of 17 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft from Lockheed Martin at Canadian Forces Base, Trenton.
Designated by Canada as the CC-130J, the new aircraft is a stretched configuration of the C-130J, operated by the US and other air forces.

The aircraft’s short-field performance will allow direct support missions for front-line forces.
C-130Js will be used for troop and equipment resupply via ground delivery and airdrop, air-to-air refuelling, ground refuelling, humanitarian relief, and search and rescue.
Under a contract signed with Lockheed Martin in December 2007, Canada will receive the remaining 16 CC-130J aircraft by the end of 2012.
