Solar Electrical Systems has installed a solar electrical shadeport at the US Air Force’s Los Angeles Air Force Base, the largest installation of its kind in the city.

The shadeport will generate 360kW of energy, make over $70,000 in electrical savings each year and save nearly $12.5m in taxes over 30 years.

The solar modules are panelised for the first time in this project – seven modules are combined into one long panel and shipped directly to the site on flatbed trucks.

The panelisation sped up the installation process by 20%, and reduced on-site labour and overall system costs.
