Turkey’s Peace Eagle airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft has been installed with mission simulator and mission support centre hardware by Boeing and HAVELSAN.

The mission simulator will provide training for Turkish Air Force crews on a wide range of AEW&C missions, reducing the associated training costs.

The simulator features ten mission consoles, instructor operator stations and aircraft equipment rack assemblies.

The mission support centre hardware includes both mission planning and flight planning terminals, replay terminals and electronic support measures workstations.

Two main functions of the support centre are to load mission software onto the Peace Eagle aircraft and provide initial data analysis after a mission.

Boeing Peace Eagle programme manager Mark Ellis said the installations would set the stage for formal integration of the hardware and software, as well as for developmental tests and evaluation in early 2010.

Boeing’s industry supplier HAVELSAN designed the subsystems, acquired the equipment and performed the two installations.

The third subsystem, Software Support Center, is scheduled to be installed in Konya in 2010, which will be used for software testing and upgrades.

The subsystem features a live communications capability for interaction with the Peace Eagle aircraft.

The Peace Eagle programme comprises four 737 AEW&C aircraft and ground support segments for mission crew training, mission support and system maintenance.
