A Kyrgyz parliamentary committee will consider draft agreements that will allow France and Spain to use the country’s Manas airbase for the transit of troops and supplies to Afghanistan.
The committee will review a draft treaty between Kyrgyzstan and France on the deployment of a French Air Force unit and a draft treaty with Spain on the use of the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan.

The base, which was to support US-led operations in Afghanistan from 2001, was told to shutdown in February 2009. The decision was seen as influenced by Russia, which had granted a large financial aid package to the country.
In July 2009, however, the Kyrgyz Government allowed the US to establish a transit centre at Manas international airport to address the situation in and around Afghanistan.
