The Pentagon has announced a contract awarded to Raytheon to upgrade the advanced medium-range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM) system for the US Air Force.
AMRAAM is an lightweight missile system that provides multishot capabilities and beyond visual range (BVR) engagements.
AMRAAM’s operational capabilities include quick flyout, robust immunity to countermeasures, and improved capability for attacking low-altitude targets, low visual signature.
The air force has currently obligated $2m for the upgrade programme to be handled by Eglin Air Force Base.
