The US Air Force signed a contract to receive AN/VRC-110 multiband, multimode vehicular radios and new RF-7800I tactical intercom systems for its ground missions from Harris Corporation.

The equipment will be incorporated into the air force’s high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles.

The air force will be enabled with modular, interoperable in-vehicle voice and data connectivity with the RF-7800I.

The system will also create a network backbone to connect with the wider battlefield network by centralising access to and control of vehicular communication assets including the AN/VRC-110.

The AN/VRC-110 offers the forces a range of capabilities such as single-channel ground and airborne radio system interoperability, ultra-high-frequency ground-to-ground line-of-sight communications, close-air support and programmable encryption.

The contract order is worth $13.5m.
