General Dynamics (GD) Advanced Information Systems has been awarded a contract by the US Air Force (USAF) to develop an open system architecture (OSA) common back-end digital processor.
Under the $7.8m contract, GD will develop the processor for the entire family of USAF radio frequency (RF) electronic devices including SIGINT sensors, electronic-warfare and communication systems.
The company will leverage technologies developed under other OSA initiatives to provide a single family of processors to handle digital processing needs of all Air Force RF systems.
Back-end processors are used to analyse sensor signals, which have been collected by RF devices after conversion from analogue to digital formats.
Work under the contract will be carried out at the company’s facilities in Minnesota, Virginia, Hawaii and Michigan, US.
