Russian Air Force has placed an order for seven Antonov-140 turboprop military cargo aircraft developed in Ukraine, says Ukrainian aircraft engine manufacturer Motor Sich.

Motor Sich chairman Viacheslav Boguslav said the Russian Air Force will purchase planes built to military specifications.

The An-140 is a twin-engine airplane, which has only been used as a passenger aircraft for civilian purposes, primarily by airlines in Ukraine, Libya and Iran.

The monetary value of the contract has not been disclosed, however, the list price of an An-140 is estimated to be around $9m, according to Ukrainian news reports.

Ukraine is looking to sell a four-engine military cargo plane, the An-70, to the Russian Air Force, but Moscow is likely to develop its own medium military cargo plane.
