The South African Air Force (SAAF) is considering procuring a second Boeing business jet (BBJ) and a slightly smaller Bombardier Global Express XRS instead of leasing two Embraer Linaege 1000 jets.

The funding for the new jets will come from the National Treasury and not the current defence budget.

The SAAF recently awarded a five-year $120m contract to AdoAir Aviation Group for leasing the two Embraer aircraft.

The new BBJ will be used to support Presidency transportation while the first BBJ is undergoing maintenance.

The new jets will be delivered to SAAF on 1 July 2011 instead of alternative aircraft rented at higher cost.
