The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has agreed to purchase four Saber M60 surveillance radar systems from Orbisat.
A letter of intent has been signed at the LAAD 2011 exhibition held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while the $12m final contract is expected by the end of the year.
The radars were selected after Brazil’s Department of Airspace Control evaluated the systems to check whether they met FAB’s operational requirements.
The M60 surveillance radar systems have a range of 60km, can simultaneously track 40 targets and can be integrated with other surveillance and air defence systems.
The systems will be used by the FAB at Canoas and Manaus and Aveiro air bases, according to the Shephard.
