Russia has delivered two disassembled Mi-35P Hind E attack helicopters to Peru to provide air power to counter cocaine production and terrorism.

The delivery follows a $108m contract signed between Rosoboronexport and the Peruvian Defence Ministry in July 2010.

Russian Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade head Igor Korotchenko said the helicopters would be assembled and tested by Russian technicians before the official transfer to the Peruvian Air Force.

The Mi-35 is an improved export version of Mi-24 helicopter, which combines high fire power with troop transport capability and will be used in anti-drug and anti-terrorism missions.

The contract also includes delivery of the first two Mi-171s to Peru, which are expected in May this year, according to RIA Novosti.
