The motor achieved a peak thrust of 80,000 lbf during the tests.

The A2S motor is being developed for the air force’s propulsion application programme that aims to develop a new generation of motors with improved performance and diminished costs.

Aerojet executive director of strategic programmes Mark Kaufman said that the research and development efforts will sustain the US Air Force’s strategic strike capability.

The design, analysis and materials used will provide a range of strategic propulsion alternatives for future warfighter needs, he added.
