Norway has withdrawn its final four F-16 fighter jets from the Nato-led mission over Libya as planned, as the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) cannot sustain such a large air contribution for a long period of time.

The Hindustan Times quotes military spokesman Petter Lindqvist as saying that Norwegian aircraft had carried out 583 missions and dropped 569 bombs since 31 March.

In June, Norway announced that it would gradually withdraw its six F-16 fighter aircraft deployed at the Souda base in Crete, Greece.

The RNoAF exit, however, will not affect air operations in Libya, according to Nato officials.
