Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) has been appointed by Airbus Helicopters as its ‘prime contractor and completion centre’ for its rotorcraft.

Under the agreement, Airbus will use TAI as the centre for the sale and distribution of its helicopters to the customers of Thailand’s military and government.

It expands on an earlier agreement signed by them in 2019.

TAI will also be responsible for new rotorcraft sales in Thailand, flight check, ferry flight and final delivery to customer, contract and warranty management.

In addition, the company will conduct the acceptance check of the green helicopter at Airbus Helicopters facilities, incoming check and reassembly, as well as customisation and completion work.

Thai Aviation Industries managing director air chief marshal Supachai Saingurn said: “We are honoured to take our partnership with Airbus another step forward.

“Having worked with Airbus to develop a strong maintenance operation and after-sales support chain in Thailand, we are confident of delivering further key milestones that will benefit our customers.”

TAI will receive engineering support, knowledge transfer and training from Airbus Helicopters as part of the agreement.

The latest partnership covers the entire Airbus helicopters fleet of H125/H125M, H130, H135, H145/H145M, H160, H175, H215/H215M, H225/H225M.

Airbus Helicopters Asia-Pacific head Vincent Dubrule said: “Thailand is an important market for Airbus and has seen our comprehensive range of helicopters operated by the military and governmental sectors. We are confident of growing this presence and will continue to work alongside TAI to strengthen the local support chain.”

In September 2018, the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) placed a follow-on order with Airbus Helicopters for the delivery of an additional four units of the H225M tactical transport military aircraft.
