Sky Power Introduces New Starter Generator Control

The German engine manufacturer Sky Power GmbH is introducing a new generator control system for its own engine family and for third-party engines. The SGC 352 starter generator control unit can be used for engines with fuel injection and engines with carburettors.

Sky Power GmbH managing director Karsten Schudt explains: “Our new Starter Generator Control SGC 352 is equipped with an advanced brushless motor speed control. Communication with the engine is via hall effect sensors. Furthermore, the SGC 352 starter generator control unit is lighter than comparable systems on the market.”

The SGC 352 can not only be used to start the combustion engine but also during generator mode for battery charging. In this case, the control system not only takes over the phase of current control but also the battery current and speed control.

The new control system has already been successfully used in the field in several projects. Motors of the SP-210 and SP-275 series were equipped with the new control unit, including some heavy fuel (HF) applications.

Schudt added: “Furthermore, the system can also be used with third-party systems.”

Further applications in other engine series of Sky Power GmbH are planned. The new hybrid engine, based on the SP-55, which will be introduced in the coming weeks, will also be equipped with the new control system.

Sky Power GmbH is a leading manufacturer of two-stroke combustion- and Wankel engines for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and hybrid applications. Besides in-house development and manufacturing, Sky Power produces all engines in Germany. Custom adaptations, new developments and continuous performance improvements of the combustion engines are ongoing company objectives.
