MiG-29UB is a training and combat update of MiG-29 with twin seat training model, infra-red (IR) sensor mounted only and no radar.

It is designed to train cadets and allow experienced pilots to hone their combat skills.

The trainer jet successfully passed test flights and delivered to one of the combat units of the UAF.

Lviv State Aircraft Repair Plant director Dmitry Matrunchik said: “Despite the fact that our company is in a zone of economic turbulence due to lack of state defence orders and forced shutdowns related to the Covid-19 pandemic, timely fulfilment of obligations to customers and partners remains a constant priority for the team.”

Ukroboronprom said that the MiG-29 fighter is the main combat aircraft of Ukrainian Air Force and Armed Forces.

The company noted that MiG-29 can be deployed to perform air defence tasks and to strike ground targets.

In August 2018, Ukroboronprom delivered the upgraded MiG-29MU1 aircraft to the UAF. The modernised MiG-29MU1 combat jets are an upgraded version of the MiG-29 fighter aircraft.

The MiG-29K fighter bomber aircraft is manufactured by RSK MiG and the Irkutsk Aircraft Production Association Joint Stock Company.
