Thales Australia has signed a subcontract with local defence company Nova Group to support the country’s OneSKY project.
Recruitment is currently underway for the project designed to enhance the safety of the Australian skies with the integration of the most advanced air traffic management system technology.

Australia’s OneSKY programme has been designed to better handle forecast air traffic growth to help reduce congestion and open up additional air routes, as well as reduce flight times, fuel costs and carbon emissions.
Australian Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said: “The OneSKY project will integrate the nation’s civil and military air traffic management systems ensuring Australia remains a global aviation leader.
“Increased safety and reductions in travel times and delays are some of the outcomes to benefit travellers in Australia.”
Pyne further added that the advanced air traffic management programme will help support 450 specialist high-tech job opportunities, further developing skills of the natives in complex project management, systems engineering and software development.

By GlobalDataThe current subcontract signed between Thales Australia and Nova Group will create an additional ten to 20 jobs, which would be a part of an expected 200 job opportunities through the supply chain.
Pyne added: “This is an important subcontract for advanced testing and verification services at all 16 OneSKY sites around Australia.”
Pyne also viewed the $12m investment in upgrade works being carried out in Australia in order to develop an advanced systems engineering facility for the OneSKY team.
Last month, the Australian Department of Defence and Airservices Australia entered an agreement with Thales to implement the A$1.2bn ($942.67m) OneSKY air traffic management system.
