Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has completed its first flight test of the sense and avoid (SAA) sensor as a part of the multi-sensor detect sense and avoid (MSDSA) programme.
During the airborne demonstration, the prototype x-band radar sensor detected and tracked several airborne intruders, thereby providing over 60 seconds of collision avoidance time.

The sensor is equipped with electronically reconfigurable array (ERA) to reduce cost and compatibility issues relating to multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) concepts of operations and installation procedures.
The MSDSA programme is aimed at the development of the SAA radar system for UAVs to detect and avoid all intruders in all weather, both on the ground and in all phases of flight.
The second demonstration of the programme is scheduled for early next year.
