LMI Aerospace has been selected by Embraer to design and build wing slat assemblies for the Brazilian Air Force KC-390 military transport aircraft.

Under the $44m contract, the company will provide engineering, manufacturing, testing, tooling, certification and product support for the complete wing slat system.

Embraer will fund the engineering, testing and tooling with milestone payments throughout the development process.

The KC-390 is a twin-engine, medium-lift military transport aircraft designed to perform troop and cargo transport, aerial delivery, in-flight refuelling and medical evacuation missions.

Work on the contract will begin this month and the first products will be delivered in the first quarter of 2013.
