L-3 Communications’ Military Aviation Services (MAS) division has secured a contract for the supply of complete in-service support (ISS) services for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) CC-150 Polaris aircraft fleet.
Valued at C$683m ($669m), the contract features a five-year base performance period and two five-year option periods.

Under the contract, L-MAS will deliver overall programme management, materiel management, engineering support, flightline maintenance, heavy maintenance, as well as component maintenance, repair and overhaul services.
L-3 Integrated Systems Group president John McNellis said the contract holds significance for the company as it continues to expand its platform and logistics solutions capabilities worldwide.
”It also provides additional diversity to our impressive Canadian military ISS business base, which already includes fighters, trainers and helicopters,” McNellis said.
L-3 MAS had also been awarded the C$25m ($24.2m) CC-150 interim ISS contract in June 2012.

By GlobalDataAs part of the contract, the company, along with its subcontractor, Avianor, has provided the day-to-day maintenance of the aircraft fleet at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario, and its facilities in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada.
A modification of the Airbus A310 civilian aircraft, the CC-150 Polaris is a long-range jet aircraft used by the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) for a range of high-profile missions, including strategic air-to-air refuelling, VIP transportation, as well as passenger, freight and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations.
Depending on configuration, the twin-engine, multi-purpose aircraft can transport 28 to 194 people at a maximum speed of up to 1,029km/h.
Around five aircraft are currently operational with RCAF, and two of them have been configured for strategic air-to-air refuelling for Canada’s CF-18 Hornet fighter fleet, as part of the air force multirole tanker transport (MRTT) programme.
