The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will soon be equipped with a number of new air defence systems, Iran’s Defence Minister brigadier general Ahmad Vahidi said.

The nation recently tested two indigenous mid-range Hawk missiles, part of the Mersad air defence system, which are expected to boost the country’s air defence power, according to Fars News Agency.

The air defence unit sentinels were recently equipped with advanced man-portable, shoulder-fired rocket launchers and advanced drone-detecting radars that are capable of destroying hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Iran has been producing its own tanks, armoured personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes since 1992.
