The Indian Air Force (IAF) is considering purchasing additional Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, adding to the 12 aircraft that it had planned to induct.
The details regarding the number of aircraft have not been disclosed; however, it is believed that the fleet may double in size to 24 aircraft, according to Domain-b.com.
The air force had originally signed a contract for C-130Js in 2008 and is due to sign a follow-on order for a further six by the end of this year.
Currently, the IAF’s C-130Js operate as part of the 77 Squadron at Hindon Air Force Base, New Delhi, India.
