Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has expanded the joint venture (JV) being established with Kalyani Strategic Systems (KSSL), the defence arm of India-based Kalyani Group.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect has been signed by the companies.
Under the terms of the latest MoU, the companies will set up a maintenance centre for selected advanced air defence systems in Hyderabad, a city in the Indian state of Telangana.
The companies will also expand their joint operations to development, manufacturing and marketing of precise ammunition systems.
IAI Systems, Missiles and Space Group executive vice-president and general manager Boaz Levi said: "The MoU entered today is a strategic agreement for us. Combining the development capabilities and the vast know-how accumulated in IAI in air defence and missiles with Kalyani's advanced production and excellent technological capabilities will help us offer the most advanced systems to India's defence forces.
“The establishment of a local maintenance centre will offer the best technical and operational support to our customers in India while implementing the 'Make in India' initiative. We look forward to investing more in air defence and missiles with Kalyani Group, our partner in India."
In February, IAI and Kalyani Group signed a MoU to form a JV for the development, marketing and production of selected air defence systems and lightweight special purpose munitions, in accordance with the Indian Government's ‘Make in India' policy.
The JV is said to combine IAI's knowledge and experience as a developer of high-technology selected missile systems with the engineering excellence and manufacturing capabilities of the Kalyani Group.
