The Italian Air Force will receive two 767 aircraft refuelling tankers from Boeing by the end of 2010, after a delay of five years.

The delivery of an additional two tankers will be delayed, however, due to remaining work to improve capability, according to Reuters.

Boeing has resolved the problem with the planes’ fuel-carrying wing pods that had caused the wings to flutter at high speeds.

The first two planes will include three operational air refuelling systems, the wing pods, a refuelling boom and a centreline hose drum unit, under a contract signed with Italy in 2002.
