Thales has delivered its digital joint reconnaissance pod (DJRP) to Saab AB for installation on the South African Air Force’s (SAAF) Gripen aircraft.

Saab will begin a series of integration flight trials with the DJRP, following which the pod will be handed over to the SAAF.

An ideal solution for tactical electro-optic / infrared reconnaissance requirements, the DJRP will provide simultaneous high-resolution / wide-area coverage.

The DJRP, when integrated onto the Gripen fighter aircraft, will take high-resolution images of the battlefield while flying overhead.

The digital images from the pod will be studied by analysts on the ground to help make tactical decisions.

Thales has completed factory integration tests of the pod at its optronics facility in Glasgow in June.
