The South African Department of Defence awarded a contract to Raytheon for Paveway II laser-guided bombs (LGB) at the UK Farnborough Air Show.
Under the contract, Raytheon will provide its LGB computer control groups and air foil groups to the South African Air Force.
The LGB weapon system will transform dumb bombs into precision-guided munitions for operational test and evaluation on South Africa’s Gripen fighter aircraft.
Raytheon will begin delivery of the LGB weapon systems in 2011, and provide air and ground crew training to the air force.
