The US Air Force has awarded Environmental Tectonics Corporation’s (ETC) Training Services Group a contract to provide a suite of research altitude chamber systems.
Under the contract, ETC will deliver a suite of four altitude chambers to the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio by June 2013.
The chambers will allow investigation of physiological issues associated with exposure to medium and high altitudes in extreme environments, and enable equipment development, qualification and human ratings.
The suite will support research activities to develop solutions to meet the Department of Defense’s current and future aviation and space operations.
The chambers, to be installed in a new purpose-built facility, will include pressure vessel and environmental control technology.
Under the $38m contract, ETC will manufacture the research altitude chambers at its main manufacturing plant in Southampton, Pennsylvania.
