The Italian Air Force, Aeronautica Militare Italiana (AMI), has awarded a contract to Allied Telesi for the supply of an integrated networking solution for its military campuses.

Under the contract, Allied will supply SwitchBlade x908, AT-x900 advanced layer 3, and AT-x600 gigabit edge switches to the air force.

The solution is being deployed to enhance security, reliability and manageability for mission-critical applications at AMI military campuses.

The SwitchBlade x908 advanced layer-3 modular switch will include eight high-speed 60Gbps expansion bays to deliver scalable and versatile switching for persistent applications.

Equipped with six 10Gb fibre uplinks, it will support high bandwidth with low latency to provide bi-directional, uninterrupted data streaming for video streaming.

It will also include an AlliedWare Plus operating system, which uses an industry-standard command-line interface (CLI) to facilitate centralised network management.

The x900 will create a failure-free network with high availability and redundancy to meet wire speed standards for IPv4 and IPv6 routing.

It will ensure interoperability between current and future network standards important to AMI network expansion.

The x600 gigabit edge switches will provide network access control (NAC) security, which is critical for the entry point at the edge of the AMI network.
