Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to develop a new avionics system for the Swedish Armed Forces’ Gripen fighter aircraft.

Under the two-year Skr450m ($56m) contract, Saab will develop a new avionics system, which will include new computers and displays.

It will enhance Gripen’s capacity to handle large quantities of complex information with varying security classification levels.

Expected to enter service by 2020, the system will also enable the future introduction of new sensors that require altered system architecture.
