Europe’s advanced European jet pilot training (AEJPT) programme has received proposals from Finmeccanica and EADS Defence & Security for the M-346 jet training aircraft.

The team will offer a comprehensive training solution for future combat aircraft pilots to meet expectations of the European Defence Agency (EDA).

The two firms plan to involve other European firms from AEJPT member countries in the training service and base operating activities.

Based on the latest design-to-cost and design-to-maintain concepts, the M-346 is fitted with avionics modelled on jets such as Eurofighter, Gripen, Rafale, F-16, F-22 and the future JSF.

The EDA was set up as a joint procurement office for the EU. It is managing the AEJPT programme and issued the request for information in July 2009.

AEJPT member countries include Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
