The US Air Force has received the second and third C-130 trainer aircraft for the avionics modernisation programme (AMP) from Boeing at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas.
The two trainers, the avionics part task trainer and the cockpit familiarisation trainer were declared ready for use on 25 September and 22 October.
The C-130 AMP modification will enhance the air force’s situational awareness, both in operation theatres and in civil airspace while delivering key warfighter capabilities.
The final two trainers as part of the AMP contract will be delivered in 2010 and 2013.
Training for C-130 AMP aircrews on the operation of the aircraft’s upgraded avionics will begin in October 2010.
Boeing also delivered a full-motion, high-fidelity weapon system trainer to the Little Rock base in July 2009.
