BAE Systems will provide support for the radar and defensive aids subsystems (DASS) on Typhoon fleets for the air forces of Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, under a new £400m contract from Eurofighter.

BAE is responsible for system-level design of the radar and DASS equipment on the Typhoon swing-role fighter aircraft, and will operate as the prime contractor for the contract, which will be delivered in concert with Euroradar and Eurodass – two international consortia.

The firm’s integrated, engineering support solution offers a range of services leading to much reduced support costs, improved reliability of equipment and the transfer of risk to industry.

The contract will offer a 50% saving on the previous repair contract for the radar and DASS and improve reliability and a reduce support costs, helping the air forces to deliver a more efficient and cost-effective frontline capability.

Earlier this week, the Royal Saudi Air Force awarded a three-year Typhoon support contract to BAE that included training pilots and maintenance personnel.
