The Afghan National Army Air Corps (ANAAC) will receive the first modernised and refurbished G.222/C-27 aircraft delivered by Alenia North America to the US Air Force.

The G.222 is a robust aircraft, capable of taking off in all operating conditions. It can operate in a range of missions including humanitarian and peace keeping operations, firefighting, medical evacuation, troop transport and logistical support.

The aircraft will provide the newly reconstructed ANNAC with a fundamental capability contributing to the security and stability of the territory.

The aircraft is the first of 18 G222 / C-27 aircraft under contract with the USAF for modernisation, refurbishment and incorporation into the ANAAC.

The remaining 17 aircraft are scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2011.

Following delivery of the aircraft, US air advisers will be trained and the aircraft will then be transferred to the combined air power transition force in Kabul for incorporation into the ANAAC.
