The Swiss Air Force will receive 14 advanced targeting forward-looking infrared (ATFLIR) pod systems and spares for its F/A-18 Hornet aircraft.

The ATFLIR pod will provide the hornets with advanced electro-optical and infrared sensors with a tracking laser that can locate and designate targets day or night at a range of over 40nm and at an altitude of more than 50,000ft.

The pods can also pass precise tracking and targeting information to other nodes in the networked battlespace very quickly.

The sensor components utilise a single common optical path and continuous automatic boresight alignment to ensure accurate target coverage and sensor-to-shooter tactical mission support.

The pods will be delivered to the air force in 2011.
