Saab will upgrade the Swedish Air Force’s SK60 training aircraft to extend its life span to 2017 under a contract signed with the with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
The upgrade will include installation of a new global positioning system, systems for audible altitude and primary warning signals.
With the upgrade, certain instruments will be replaced, altitude and speed displays with different measurement units will fitted and the trainer will be given a new cabin layout.
The contract follows Swedish armed forces’ plans to modernise the SK60 training platform in order to ensure its use until 2017.
The upgrade will be completed by the end of 2011.
