The Indian Air Force has taken the delivery of the first batch of four Cheetal helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

IAF air vice-marshal and assistant chief of air staff M Bahadur said that the lightweight helicopter will enhance the force’s operational capabilities, especially for high altitude operation.

The Cheetal is derived from the Cheetah copter by replacing the Artouste IIIB engine with the TM 333-2M2 engine.

The helicopter features upgrades such as GPS, flight monitoring system, and an emergency locator transmitter.

The IAF had ordered a total of ten helicopters, six of which will be delivered in September.
