The phase I of the US Air Force's Project Liberty Aircraft (LPA) programme has been completed with the delivery of the seventh aircraft from L-3 Communications.

The LPA programme has been undertaken by the US to meet the immediate intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) needs of US combat forces.

Under the contract, about 37 Air Force MC-12Ws or Project Liberty aircraft will be fitted with sensor packages and communications systems.

The project uses militarised versions of the Hawker Beechcraft Super King Air 350 with enhanced video and signals intelligence capabilities that can integrate information collected from other systems on the battlefield.
