The Brazilian Air Force has received the final tenders from companies bidding to win its FX-2 project for purchasing the first batch of 36 multimission warplanes.

The contenders for the contract at this phase include Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Dassault Aviation Rafale and Saab Gripen NG.

The F-X2 project management group GPF-X2 has selected the offers after evaluating the aircraft based on technical, logistic and industrial inspections and test flights.

The next-generation Gripen aircraft is an evolved edition of the single-engine aircraft developed by SAAB. The F/A-18 Super Hornet and Rafale on other hand are twin-engine strike fighters currently in service with US and French forces, respectively.

The evaluation process for the final selection will continue until the end of June 2009.
