The US Air Force (USAF) has awarded a contract to Harris for the supply of Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios.
Under the $29m contract, the company will provide lighter, portable radio systems in support of network-enabled missions.
The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G radio features a software-defined, upgradable voice and data platform that supports network-enabled missions such as convoy tracking, mission operations planning and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).
Harris RF Communications Department of Defense business president Brendan O’Connell said, “The AN/PRC-117G radio provides warfighters with unprecedented situational awareness, and command and control of the battlefield.”
The radio is the first US joint tactical radio system (JTRS) software communications architecture-certified, NSA type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system deployed by all branches of the US DoD.
The system and other Falcon III radios have also been adopted by US allies and other Nato countries.
