The South African Air Force (SAAF) has awarded two contract extensions for on-demand support services for the Saab Gripen fighter aircraft.

The SAAF has also placed a new order for power and cooling distribution supply systems installation at the Gripen maintenance facility at Air Force Base Makhado, South Africa.

The R151m ($22.27m) contracts forms part of the R19.908bn ($2.94bn) Project Ukhozi acquisition.

South Africa signed a contract with BAE/Saab to procure 26 C & D advanced Gripens, with deliveries having begun in April 2008.

The last of these lightweight single-engine multirole fighters is scheduled to be delivered early next year, according to defenceWeb.
