UK Royal Air Force communications specialists based at Royal Air Force Leeming have conducted a ten-day field preparation prior to deployment in support of operations in Libya in August.
90 Signals Unit 2 Squadron Tactical Communications Wing conducted the mission rehearsal exercise at Driffield Training area in North Humberside, UK, before their deployment to various military posts in Italy and Cyprus.
The exercise was aimed at ensuring that technicians will be able to cope with and overcome any technical difficulties during combat deployment.
As part of the training exercise, the squadron set up voice and data lines in a completely bare field using masts, a satellite dish and extremely specialist vehicle-borne equipment.
Senior Aircraftsman (SAC) Lee Lightfoot said: “Training like this gives us the right experience to work on the equipment.”
