L-3 Communications has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of hardware and software to upgrade six Canadian Air Force networked CF-18 nine-panel tactical operational flight trainers system.

Under the $22.36m contract, awarded under the foreign military sales programme, the company will change the existing advanced distributed combat training system to the current US Navy tactical operation flight trainers’ roadmap procurement programme baseline.

The contract also includes hardware and software installation, testing for ten-part task trainers and six brief and debrief systems, as well as a theatre-specific visual database and simulated joint helmet-mounted cueing system.

A new PC-based image generation and operator, maintenance and user defined file training will also be provided for ten students.

Work will be performed in Canada as well as the US, and is expected to be completed in May 2013.

The US Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division will be the contracting activity.
