Rockwell Collins has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract by the US Air Force (USAF) for KC-10 communication navigation surveillance air traffic management.

The estimated $55.1m contract includes providing a single integrator for the engineering, manufacturing, development, production and installation of the system.

The KC-10 Extender is an air-to-air tanker aircraft, derived from the DC-10-30 airliner, and is used in strategic refuelling of various tactical aircraft and other strategic transport aircraft.

Boeing was awarded a contract to upgrade its fleet of 59 aircraft with a new communication, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management (CNS/ATM) system.

Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center / GKSKA, Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, US will be the contracting activity.
